A Closer Look - Outside

While the naming scheme for the CMT series may not be very transparent, the CMT340 shares its design with the CM510, which also features ample use of glass paneling. The CMT340, however, as the smaller number suggests, is compacter and ever so slightly simplified by only offering one glass side panel instead of two.

The front is tinted quite heavily, so you can't see anything that is inside unless you look really closely. In the rear, things looks quite ordinary with the PSU bay on the bottom, which is not a bad thing.

Looking at the main side panel, you will notice that this glass panel is not tinted as heavily and comes framed in black to keep the design as clean as possible. Both panels are held in place by thumb screws, but as the one behind the motherboard tray is solid metal, it is affixed from the rear.

The bottom opening in the rear consists of a square to which the PSU frame is mounted. Above that are the seven expansion slots with individual, reusable covers. In the very top, you will find another 120 mm fan set to push hot air out the back of the case. This brings the total number of cooling units to four out of the box, which is a lot more than we have come to expect from mid-tower cases.

Unlike the CMT510, the 340 allows for air or liquid cooling in the top. A magnetic dust filter protects the interior from sucking in dirt and grime over time. However, odds are you will be pushing hot air out the top should you go for active cooling here. You may install two 120 or 140 mm fans or a radiator of up to 280 mm in the top.

There are two USB 3.0 and the usual audio plugs and status LEDs. The button acts as a power switch on one side and LED color toggle on the other. FSP put simple metal mesh dust filters on the underside you may remove for cleaning, which means tipping the CMT340 over.
