Value and Conclusion

  • The FSP VITA GM 850 W retails for around $105.
  • Competitive pricing
  • Delivers and exceeds its rated power output at high (>40°C) ambient temperature
  • Efficiency better than 80 Plus Gold
  • Very quiet operation across the full load spectrum
  • Very good voltage regulation on the +12 V rail
  • Decent connectivity
  • Very good build quality and components
  • Good ripple suppression
  • Compact size
  • ATX 3.1 support
  • 10-year warranty
  • Voltage regulation of the minor rails could be improved
  • Low power factor at lower loads
  • Efficiency at very low loads could be better
The FSP VITA GM 850 W is yet another solid contender for the value-oriented enthusiast. In essence, it ticks all the major boxes, from the build quality, available connectivity options to efficiency, quiet operation and good voltage regulation, at least on the main rail.

But, as is quite obvious from the percentage of 850 W power supply reviews at TPU, this budget segment is particularly competitive and some Gold-rated PSUs are becoming very affordable. The FSP VITA GM is definitely on the cheaper side of the spectrum, but there's fierce competition. In terms of efficiency and acoustic performance it can definitely compete with higher priced units. But again, the VITA GM 850 W is not without shortcomings as we have pointed in the downside section, specifically for low load performance. Regardless, the VITA GM 850 W is still without doubt a recommended buy at a very attractive price point.
