Value & Conclusion

  • The G.Skill Trident Kit 4GB PC3-16000U CL9-9-9-27 will set you back around 300-330 €. You are clearly paying a price premium for the high capacity, but this attribute is not exclusive to the G.Skill kit.
  • High capacity
  • Excellent headroom at CL9.
  • Very good voltage scaling
  • Manages to run at 1600 MHz and CL7
  • Cool looking heatspreaders
  • Active and silent cooling with blue LED
  • Capable of CL8 and 1800 MHz at 1.5 V
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Price premium over 4 GB kit
  • Did not manage 2000 MHz CL8
  • Large heatspreaders may collide with some coolers
  • Will require an Intel i7 8XX series for the 2:12 divider to reach the speed
  • Simple packaging
For those who require a high capacity kit with the fastest speeds possible, the G.Skill Trident is an excellent choice. It does not only manage the 2000 MHz at CL9, but also allows you to push the system to the limit with a very healthy overclock at that latency. For those who want to use tighter CL rating the memory kit does not dissapoint either, but it won't break any records. We managed to push the kit nicely when applying higher voltages, but it would have been nice if the kit were to run at 2000 MHz at CL8. Interestingly enough, G.Skill has released a updated kit that does just that and runs at 2000 MHz CL8-9-8. No matter which one you choose, you get a lot of performance for the price - just make sure that your system can handle this memory and its attainable speeds.
