Value & Conclusion

  • The 16 GB (4x 4GB) G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 F4-3000C15Q-16GRR kit is available for around US$400 at various retailers.
  • Excellent performance
  • Intel XMP support for quick and easy set-up
  • Standard-sized heatspreader to maximize compatibility with larger aftermarket coolers
  • The new Ripjaws 4 line-up comes in a wide variety of colors
  • Low 1.35V operating voltage
  • Ability to customize speed and timings to lower speeds
  • No need for a cooling fan on top
  • Limited colors currently available as colors are, at times, based on speed
  • Being a new technology, DDR4 is currently priced higher than comparable DDR3 DIMMs
  • High-speed memory offers limited performance gains that depend on the application used
The GSkill Ripjaws 4 3000 MHz kit managed to both meet and exceed my expectations on Intel's latest X99 Express platform, proving capable of supporting a high-speed overclock for daily use as one of the more affordable high-end kits out there right now. The new look is truly impressive to me, and I cannot discount the fact that most 2800 MHz kits comprised of just 16 GB cost more than the G.SKILL kit does, and by a fair margin. G.SKILL has a winner in this kit, both for its looks and 24/7 performance and for those looking to push their system to the limit. The huge flexibility when pushing those limits is something I, as a fiend for memory overclocking, cannot ignore.

DDR4 overclocking is a mixed bag right now. Not all motherboards are capable of meeting the speeds this kit offers, nor is every CPU, but should you run into such a situation, you can rest assured that these G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 sticks don't factor into the reasons holding you back. These Ripjaws 4 sticks did not falter while I pushed a high overclock that included a 50% increase in cache speed. They actually easily took the added abuse without any fuss at all. I just wish every motherboard allowed my CPU to reach such speeds!

A lot of talk in enthusiast forums around the globe questions the usefulness of DDR4, comparing it to DDR3 and citing the latter as more affordable and with adequate performance. Be that as it may, you simply cannot run Intel's latest with DDR3, so whether you like it or not, you'll be buying new DDR4 sticks to go along with your new X99 Express-based system. G.SKILL here has what might be the best option right now for those who hold performance dear to their heart, and the new look and time-honored reliability has come to the front of the pack to stand proud and tall in my books. G.SKILL has a winner here, and if you're looking at other DDR4-based memory right now, you might be sorely mistaken in doing so. Bought a set and need some help setting it up? Let me know in the forums!!
