Gamdias Achilles RGB Gaming Chair Review

A Closer Look at the Backrest

The backrest is 86 cm (33.9") tall and 53 cm (20.9") wide. The Achilles is capable of supporting a significant body weight and is, thus, enhanced with a metal frame. However, its dimensions are not as broad as we would like them to be for someone who weighs 200 kg (440 lb) since we have reviewed gaming chairs with a lower weight limit but broader dimensions. The metal frame of this chair is covered in high density mold-shaping foam, which feels lusciously soft. The backrest's design resembles that of a bucket seat and does then have slightly contoured edges which point outward to secure a user's back. We weren't yet able to test this gaming chair with a user weighing as much as the chair's weight limit, which means we do not know how comfortable it would be for someone who weighs as much, but our expectations are low because this chair isn't broad enough for such a user.

Two openings exist at the top of the backrest, and these serve two purposes. Gamdias provides a neck-support cushion with straps that go through these openings for a secure hold across the rear. At the rear of the backrest, these openings are also covered with customizable RGB backlight stripes for lighting effects one can set into motion by connecting the chair's USB cable to a PC or a power bank.

Gamdias paid a lot attention to the chair's appearance. There is, for instance, an impressive embroidered detail on the backrest.

The black upholstery looks fancy and pricey. Its perforations are on the contact area of the backrest, and the distinctively flawless quality of the black stitching design augments the chair's aesthetics. Even though the upholstery is made out of a synthetic material, it looks impressive. The upholstery is a leather-style vinyl out of resin or plastic. Vinyl as a material is highly versatile and can be made to look identical to leather. However, vinyl is not as durable as leather and will eventually crack or disintegrate.

The Gamdias logo is embroidered into both the front of the backrest and the rear. The logo on front is in black stitching, and the one on the back in gold stitching. Lastly, the two bolts which secure the backrest match the whole chair's sporty design.

The product's ergonomic features include a backrest that reclines by up to 150 degrees via a lever on the right side of the chair. The chair's height can be adjusted from 141–151 cm (55.5–59.4 ") with a lever on the right side, under the seat's base. Tilting resistance is also adjustable via a knob that protrudes from under the seat's base. The knob turns clockwise, providing the capability to either loosen or tighten the chair's tilt. The backrest's tilt can be locked or unlocked with the lever under the chair's left side.

A Closer Look at the Seat's Base

The seat's base has raised edges that will keep a user in an upright position, but these edges might also uncomfortably confine a large user to the seat since they are quite tall. The overall seat's width is 39 cm (15.4") and its depth is 50 cm (19.7"). Even though the seat's base initially appears to be wide, its dimensions show that it isn't as wide as it should be for a user who weighs more than 150 kg. It is reinforced with a metal frame, though, and there is plenty of cushioning for it to be comfortable. This is a soft chair to sit in, and it feels as though there are springs underneath. Whether the mold will keep its shape through time is something we cannot determine just yet, after just 1–2 months of use.

The entire contact area of the seat's base is covered in perforations, which let the skin breath, and there is an exceptionally nice stitching pattern.

Under the seat's base is a lever with multiple functions: it is used for locking or releasing the backrest's recline and height adjustments. The seat's height from the floor can be adjusted from 55–65 cm (21.6–25.6"). The Achilles seems to be addressing tall users since the minimum height for other chairs is usually less than 55 cm (21.6").

There is a cotton tag on the seat's base with the name of the chair. One thing we've mentioned at the beginning of this review is that this product comes with an integrated footrest right under the seat's base. With a simple pull, the footrest comes out and can be extended to upward of 32 cm (12.6").

Armrests

The armrests are 4D, which means they can be adjusted in both height and width. Additionally, the pads also rotate, retract, and flip sideways for extra width adjustments. Their size is longer and wider than most we have come across, and their padding is soft. The armrests are quite unique in their design, and their surface is made to look like carbon fiber.

Hydraulics

The Achilles utilizes a class-4 gas lift that is responsible for all height adjustments. This specific gas lift can support someone of up to 200 kg (440 lb), at least according to Gamdias since we don't have anyone who weighs enough around to test that claim.

Five-Star Base and Caster Wheels

The five-star base is made out of aluminium alloy and can support up to 1500 Kg (3,307 lb), which is more than enough since this chair supports users with a weight of up to 200 kg (440 lb).

The caster wheels have a diameter of 60 mm, which makes them large enough, and they roll on demand.

Support Cushions And Footrest

The chair has no integrated lumbar support or a tilting headrest. Gamdias has instead included two cushions in the bundle; a small one for neck support and a broader one for lumbar support. Both cushions are covered in the same black upholstery as the chair and are soft.

The neck-support cushion has the Gamdias logo embroidered on it in black stitching, while the lumbar support cushion has both the company name and logo embroidered on it in the same stitching color.

The embedded footrest is actually another cushion installed on two metal bars. Just like the other two cushions provided in the bundle, it is covered in a leather style vinyl upholstery. It is quite soft to the touch.
