Value and Conclusion

  • The Qinpu V-1.8 mini speakers cost $249 online at Head-Direct.
  • Great sounding midrange
  • Good low end response for a speaker of its size
  • Better than average high frequency extension
  • Amazing value
  • Full sounding midrange
  • Slightly warm sound signature
  • Nice and solid design
  • Easy to drive
  • Relatively small, ideal for desktop use
  • You need a small desktop amplifier since these are passive speakers
  • In order to achieve best sound quality you need a set of speaker stands
  • Bigger than other desktop speakers
The Qinpu V-1.8 speakers surprised me because of their low end extension, to such a great extent that I do not feel anything lacking with most of my music. Sure a dedicated subwoofer would boost the experience on some bass heavy tracks, but generally speaking the low end capabilities of the V-1.8s is good enough, especially taking into account their small design and cost!
Qinpu also make small subwoofers, this represents the ideal upgrade path since you will be able to fill the low end gap. A set of speaker stands would also be nice, near field speakers really thrive when they are elevated to ear level because they are so sensitive to positioning.
The speakers are a bit more expensive than the small Travagan’s speakers, but the sound quality gap between is worth so much more than $50 a set. If you have enough desk estate to put the V-1.8s to use I would not hesitate to recommend them.
