HiFiMAN Sundara Planar Magnetic Headphones Review

The Package

HiFiMAN keeps their boxes simple and nicely padded inside. The Sundara case is well worthy of being a storage case after you receive the headphones.

Cable quality of HiFiMAN headphones has been varying a lot, but it seems that they have finally gotten a solution that is simple for the end user and durable as well. The Sundara headphones feature mini-jack connectors on both ends, which makes using an aftermarket cable of your liking or replacing a dead connector extremely easy.

Closer Examination

On the table, the Sundara looks pretty anonymous. The finish is the same as on the metal part of the headband. Only the gray metallic painted parts stand out, which does not fit in that well with the rest of the design.

The ear cups are generous in size, as are the pads. Overall, the fit is pretty great—the headband and ear cups work well together, although we miss the swivel on the cups.

The new padding material is slightly stiff, which is a good thing. Clamping force is higher than what you get on the Edition X and more comparable to Sennheiser HD-series headphones. On the bottom of each cup is the mini-jack in.
