Value and Conclusion

  • The HIS HD 3850 IceQ3 TurboX is listed for $199 at Newegg, for example. Please don't confuse the "Turbo" and "TurboX" versions.
  • Good performance, almost as fast as HD 3870
  • Affordable
  • Good overclocking
  • Two slot cooling
  • HDMI+HDCP+Audio
  • PCI-E 2.0 support
  • Better price/performance offerings from NVIDIA
  • Two slot cooling
If you are considering the Radeon HD 3870 from AMD but are just a few bucks too short to buy it, why not get the HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ3. It is only 2% slower than the HD 3870 and offers all the same features at a lower price of only $199. The dual slot cooling solution will ensure that the card stays cool at all times.
If you want to make up for that missing 2%, you can easily overclock the card to outperform the HD 3870 and even some of NVIDIA's latest offerings. Overall the performance of the HD 3850 is fine to play all current titles at their "high" detail setting. Also the card is a great addition to any media PC system (if you can fit a two-slot cooler) because of the HDMI+HDCP+Audio support. Just attach the included adapter, connect your HDMI cable and you're ready to watch HD movies on your big screen.
