iKBC F87 RGB Keyboard Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The iKBC F87 RGB TKL keyboard costs $125 from their retail partner Amazon.com for all four switch options in the USA as of the date of this article.
  • Good build quality
  • Great stock backlit doubleshot PBT keycaps
  • Driver-less backlighting support
  • Choice of all black or all white color options, as well as four Cherry MX RGB switches
  • Relatively expensive
  • Poor lighting effect fade quality
  • Only one year warranty
iKBC as both a company and a brand went from a collection of keyboard enthusiasts who were unknown outside of Taiwan a decade earlier to partnering with Amazon for the global sales of a product line-up that offers what a lot of mechanical keyboard enthusiasts want and more. The F87 RGB in particular comes in at a price point where you can find some TKL and even some full-size RGB backlit keyboards at a lower price point, some even with strong driver support, such as the Corsair K65 LUX RGB which also features an aluminum base plate and dedicated media buttons. So where is the argument for the iKBC F87 instead?

The answer is the same I use to justify the more gaming-oriented RGB backlit keyboards that have popped up in the past couple years - everyone has different tastes, and I for one am glad there are different options. iKBC is catering more to those who want a solid keyboard with excellent stock keycaps that feel great to use and will not wear out over time; the RGB backlighting is a bonus on top to tick off a few more wishlists. Do not get this if you want a software driver with more complex lighting control or macro record/playback, or even the new quicker activation mechanical switches from just about everyone.

Perhaps it is just me, but I am now eager to see how their C-series ends up being without the RGB backlighting and the same for everything else. At a $80-$100 price point (hopefully), it would be a really good keyboard to have for all settings and without having to worry about having to replace it, or loosing that typing experience as it was on day one over time. This F87 RGB still does enough to merit a strong recommendation, and that is what it shall get from me.
