A Closer Look - Outside

Taking a first look at the In Win 901, it looks like someone dried the 904 out to shrink it in size, which essentially translates into In Win doing a great job in keeping the look and aspect ratio of the larger chassis with the smaller 901. The chassis obviously uses the same materials, so you will get the same crazily lavish mixture of aluminum and tempered glass.

Looking at the front, there is nothing to disturb the enclosure's pure look. There is only an In Win logo on the bottom half, which also acts as a power-on light. Besides that, the shiny silver aluminum remains as it is—untouched. Turning the chassis around, the aluminum frame continues, along with the same openings as the 904.

Both sides are covered by tinted and tempered glass panels. These are a bit thinner than on the S-Frame or 904. While it does make them a little more fragile, considering the chassis' smaller size, there is no need for such thick panels as it also adds a considerable amount of weight.

You will find an I/O panel with two USB 3.0 and both audio connectors in the same location as on the 904. But the 901 comes with two instead of four USB plugs. While two is fine, the chassis also lacks a USB 3.0 to 2.0 adapter cable, so you had better have a board with a 20-pin USB 3.0 header.

Just like its bigger brethren, the 901 offers an optical bay, but this one is of the slimline variety because of space constraints. Having such a drive at your disposal in a chassis of this size is pretty cool even if you have to spend a few additional dollars on one over a traditionally sized drive.

The PSU bay is on the bottom of the back. Unlike the 904, which hid the actual bay behind its silver aluminum panel, said panel is actually the bay itself on the 901. Above that is a removable silver panel, which also acts as a mount for a 120 mm water-cooling unit. Detaching this panel gives way to both motherboard expansion slots and a small circular opening, which you may use for a small exhaust fan.
