INNOCN 39G1R 39" 1440p 165 Hz Gaming Monitor Review

Design and Ergonomics

Right from the get-go, the INNOCN 39G1R distinguishes itself with its white color, which is an unusual sight even today, when all-white builds are very common. The 39-inch panel is surrounded by 12 mm (0.41 in) bezels on the sides and top and has a 20 mm (0.79 in) chin on the bottom. The bottom bezel has a centrally positioned INNOCN logo.

The V-shaped base spans 53 centimeters (20.87 in) from left to right. It is also some 29 centimeters deep, so that's the amount of space you need to have on your table to host the 39G1R, assuming you're not mounting it on a table arm or a wall. The base doesn't have a massive footprint as it's for the most part hovering above the table, which means you can keep various items below the monitor.

You can also detach the base and the stand and place the panel on any regular VESA 75x75 table or wall mount.

The stand is round and very elegant. Like the base, it's covered in matte white plastic.

The lower part of the stand has a cable routing hole. I like the position of the hole, because it's high enough that it remains completely covered by the panel even when the monitor is propped up.

There's also a removable plastic cover, which further helps with cable management and makes things behind the monitor even tidier.

On the back, there's a diagonal LED strip, spanning almost from corner to corner. INNOCN calls this the ambient lighting system, but, in reality, it's a gimmick. The brightness of the strip isn't nearly high enough to light up the room or even the wall behind the monitor. You can cycle through various colors and effects in the LED Effects System Console OSD menu, although none of that ultimately matters, as you won't be able to reap any benefits of using the LED strip. I wish monitor manufacturers would stop slapping pointless lighting effects on monitors; either integrate a proper lighting system, that's going to be powerful enough to illuminate the wall behind the monitor and make nighttime usage more comfortable, or just skip it altogether.

The 39-inch panel has a 3000R curvature radius. It's very subtle and not at all distracting while making using the monitor more pleasant.

The panel can be tilted from -5 to +20°.

Swiveling the panel by ±20° is also supported.

The total height adjustment range of the panel is 7 centimeters (2.76 in). When pushed down, the distance from the table surface to the edge of the bottom bezel is 6.2 centimeters (2.44 in).

Notice anything unusual? The 39G1R's panel is glossy, which is a rare occurrence nowadays. We'll address this feature in more detail in the picture quality section of the review.
