The Drive

SSD Back

The drive conforms to the dimensions set forth by the 2.5" form factor. It is made of metal, which improves its durability.

SSD Interface Connector

Like most recent SSDs, the Intel 330 uses the SATA 6 Gbps interface. It is compatible with any older SATA standard, but will, in such a case, work at reduced performance.

SSD Teardown PCB Front
SSD Teardown PCB Back

You will find the SSD controller and a total of 12 flash chips on the PCB. Please note the "Cherryville" markings in the top left of the first photo. It looks like this drive uses the same PCB as the Intel 530 SSD, but with fewer flash chips (channels) and a slower firmware.

SSD Controller

Intel uses an LSI-Sandforce SF-2281 controller, which is a controller we have seen in many recent high-performance SSDs.

SSD Flash Chips

The twelve flash chips are produced by Intel on a 25 nanometer process.
