Recap of IDF SF
Sadly, we didn't get to see the whole presentation, as we arrived at the building a little later. Perhaps most interesting is the 3rd slide, which illustrates the products we can anticipate from Intel in the following years. Intel Core will be followed up by Nehalem and Gesher, which will be manufactured by 45nm and 32nm respectively. While we can expect another boost from Nehalem in just over a year, we will have to hold back for Gesher, which is slated for 2010. Intel therefore would like to introduce a new architecture every 2 years.
Intel stressed the need for high bandwith - after all, a fast CPU is useless if you cannot feed it without data. Technologies such as stacked memory should help in achieving terabytes of bandwith.
