Jou Jye BITWIN BW-B520JL 520W Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The BW-B520JL retails for $113[/list].
  • Excellent ripple suppression
  • Good voltage regulation at +12V rail (close to 1% deviation)
  • Small voltage drops in advanced transient response tests +12V and 5V
  • Quiet operation
  • Multi Link feature that allows two or more BITWIN PSUs to be linked together for increased capacity
  • 3.3V failed to stay inside ATX specification limits in both Advanced Transient tests
  • High price for a non modular 520W PSU
  • The distance between Molex and SATA connectors is quite small (105 mm and 95 mm respectively)
  • The power specifications listed by the manufacturer are wrong. The particular unit does not have two +12V rails but only one (single-rail design)
With the BITWIN series, Jou Jye decided to leave the low-end PSU category and enter the midrange one. Without any doubt BW-B520JL is a good PSU featuring close to 1% voltage regulation at +12V and excellent ripple suppression. In addition Multi Link is a highly interesting concept since it gives the user the opportunity to combine two or more PSUs (if he has enough case space) to increase wattage.
The most significant drawback of BW-B520JL is the performance of 3.3V in sudden transient loads, where it registers significant voltage drops. Finally, we found its price a bit too high. If it could be lowered then it would make the BW-B520JL highly competitive and excellent choice for a user that seeks a budget, but good and reliable PSU for a single GPU system.
