The KnewKey Rocksete might as well be a tale of two products as it consists of a fairly excellent audio system paired with a keyboard that is not so good. It is unfortunate then that the Rocksete is a keyboard first and foremost as it seemingly has taken the traits of their previous Rymek keyboard to heart with the same complaints of mediocre Bluetooth connectivity present with this sample. I can excuse the packaging and finish as this is a pre-retail version, but the actual hardware inside is common across the board, and I can only go with what my sample did, especially as I just went through a few other wireless keyboards that worked great in the same testing situations. The saving grace here is that the Rocksete can just as easily be used in USB mode, which works flawlessly.
That having been said, KnewKey's collaboration with Harman/JBL makes for a fairly unique combination of two peripherals, with the surround sound speaker system in combination with the audio-reactive lighting making for an impressive statement in conjunction with the physical looks of the Rocksete. The speakers are really good and no doubt a large part of the asking cost. At $299, however, it is priced out of many people's budgets. The stock keycaps designed for Apple users also show who is being targeted here, and an inclusion of Windows-specific keycaps and perhaps even a USB pass-through port, would have helped appeal to a larger audience. If you know this is for you, that's great, and there is definitely enough here to peak the interest of many. Just don't be that guy who takes the Rocksete to a coffee shop and plays music loudly while typing on its Outemu Blue mechanical switches.
