Lexar JumpDrive Triton 32 GB USB 3.0 Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The Lexar JumpDrive Triton USB 3.0 flash drive with 32 GB sells for around 50 Euros including taxes or 69 USD excluding taxes at various eTailers.
  • Excellent average read performance
  • Excellent unibody design
  • Above average write speeds
  • Retracting USB connector
  • Bright, white activity LED
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Available with up to 64 GB
  • Erratic write performance lowers the average to just above 60 MB/s
  • A tad bit larger than current classic flash drives
The Lexar JumpDrive Triton is not a bad drive. The Triton's write performance is lacking even though Lexar advertises speeds of 150 MB/s for both read and write. While this would be a big deal-breaker under normal circumstances, Lexar is not practicing false advertising, but is, at most, a little creative with Triton's performance numbers since the drive does manage to hit advertised numbers in ATTO. This sort of marketing is not unusual, but may really disappoint a lot of people because the drive's average speeds do not come anywhere close to its advertised speeds. The drive can, interestingly enough, still be considered quite affordable after taking its real-world average of 60 MB/s write into account. Add to that its excellent construction quality, a lifetime warranty, and its retractable USB connector, and you may just be willing to look past the average write speed, especially as it does peak at, as advertised, 150 MB/s across its entire flash-memory capacity.
