A Closer Look - Inside

To gain access to the interior, simply pull off the side panels. They hold in place really well, so you won't have to worry about vibrations or them falling off unintentionally. The insides of the case are a plain silver and do not look like anything out of the ordinary upon first sight. There is an opening in the motherboard tray, but it probably won't be big enough to give full access to the backplates of most motherboards. On top of that, due to the fact that the case is already quite wide, Lian Li has chosen not to leave any room behind the tray for cable management, but PSU placement makes such additional space less useful anyways.

The top two hard drive bays come equipped with a high-quality PCB for hot-swap functionality. You are free to pick from amongst a single Molex- or SATA plug to apply power to both of them. Its other unique aspect is the card reader that connects directly to the USB 3.0 connector on the motherboard. Lian Li uses a detachable cable they simply glued to the plug of the PCB, which allows you to remove it without causing any permanent damage if you feel inclined to do so.

The seven hard drive bays are split into two trays: the top holds three drives and the bottom bay holds the remaining four. You may remove the bottom cage if you want to install a long graphics card into the chassis. Doing so also reveals one of the two 140 mm intake fans Lian Li has pre-installed.

Taking a quick look at the rear interior, the bottom half is taken up by the expansion slots and PSU bay. The frame used to screw the PSU on gives you the choice of having its fan face the motherboard or the wall of the chassis. I strongly suggest the first because the latter doesn't offer enough air flow due to the lack of an air vent on the side panel. Above that is the third 140 mm fan—this time set to push hot air out the rear of the chassis.

Lastly, the fourth fan, a 120 mm unit, is also installed to push air out, but it lacks the signature fan grill Lian Li usually includes.

All the cables within the PC-V650 are of the standard variety. Lian Li only uses black-sleeved cables for the I/O, while case connectivity uses the standard variety.
