MOONDROP VENUS Planar Magnetic Headphones Review

Packaging and Accessories

Here's a little secret—I already had some experience with MOONDROP headphones a few weeks ago, thanks to not one but two different samples of the original VOID headphones landing here before the company decided to revise it. As such, I knew how the general unboxing theme would be for MOONDROP headphones. Those expecting to see the now-customary MOONDROP female artwork design on the product box will be pleased to know the VENUS does not stray from this. For most others, the relatively large size of the headphones rendered on said illustration's head is as foreboding as the absolute unit the VENUS is in real life. On the front of the box is also the company logo and product name, along with the salient features mentioned in English and Chinese characters. More useful is the spec sheet on the back along with the factory-rated frequency response curve and a split-up rendition of the driver assembly itself. There isn't much new to see on the sides except the confirmed use of a two-piece packaging with an external sleeve over an inner box.

The inner cardboard box is all black in color and has the product name on the front. This too is a 2-piece box with the thick lid lifting up to reveal the contents neatly packed inside. The accessory box comes placed at the top over the headband section of the headphones, which in turn are inside a shaped cutout in the cardboard box with a fabric lining to prevent any scratches or damage during transit. It does remind me a lot of the previous style of HIFIMAN packaging employed, before it went a different route. A QC card with a hand-applied seal is placed between the ear cups as seen above.

The accessory box comes clearly marked and contains paperwork in the form of a postcard with the non-cropped version of the illustration used on the product box, a warranty/registration card, and even a multi-language booklet going over the design, use, and maintenance of the VENUS, in another move that reminded me of HIFIMAN products. More relevant is the set of cables that come in individual plastic zip-lock bags, as well as a 1/4" adapter that we will also examine on the next page. MOONDROP does not provide any storage/carry option outside of this product box, so you may be interested in an aftermarket solution such as the Dekoni x SKB Hero case which was previously covered.
