MSI Immerse GH30 Review

  • The MSI Immerse GH30 is available online for $50/€48.
  • Shockingly good sound quality for the price
  • Extremely light and comfortable
  • Detachable microphone
  • Foldable design
  • Flimsy microphone mute switch
  • Mediocre passive noise isolation
The MSI Immerse GH30 is an interesting addition to the $50 gaming headset market. It's a simple analogue headset with a couple of features we don't see every day in this price bracket, such as the foldable design and detachable microphone. With the microphone detached, this headset can potentially be used on the go as it's definitely compact enough to pass as a pair of mobile headphones. I only wish it didn't have massive red dragons printed on its ear cups; I generally prefer my travel headphones to look as stealthy and unassuming as possible. Not everyone will agree, of course.

The single biggest strength of the MSI Immerse GH30 is its sound quality. I honestly wasn't expecting a plasticky $50 gaming headset to sound nearly as good. In this regard, it holds its own with gaming headsets double or even triple the price. The bass is punchy, deep, and rich without being overdone. The mids and highs are clean and sufficiently detailed, and the entire sound signature feels very well balanced. The built-in speaker drivers are also very easy to drive, so you should no trouble getting the Immerse GH30 to sound good even when connected to a laptop or smartphone.

Its microphone is mediocre at best, but gets the job done. I had no issues communicating with my teammates over Discord even when playing louder games, such as Battlefield V. The microphone capsule doesn't pick up on anything in the bass region and sounds unmistakably thin, which isn't to say your friends will have trouble understanding what you're trying to tell them. With that in mind, it falls into the "good enough" category. If microphone quality is what you're mainly concerned about, there are better microphones available in the $50 gaming headset market; some such examples can be listened to in the Microphone Performance section of this review.

Would I recommend the MSI Immerse GH30 to someone who has $50 to spend on a gaming headset? If sound quality is what that person primarily cares about and wants to get as much of as possible for $50, then yes, I most definitely would. The Immerse GH30 sounds better than pretty much any other $50 gaming headset I ever tested; it's extremely comfortable, and its microphone is perfectly usable. That's going to be more than enough for many gamers on a tight budget.
