Storage Performance

The MSI MPG X570S Carbon EK X has a decent assortment of connectivity that should be sufficient for most users. An abundance of USB Type-A ports, up to eight SATA devices, and four M.2 sockets help this motherboard stand out. Of course, this isn't without some faults. It was previously mentioned that one PCIe slot and half the SATA ports are disabled based on the number of simultaneously used M.2 SSDs.

AIDA64 (SATA 6 Gb/s)

AIDA64 (USB 3.2)

External USB-C enclosures are only rated for 10 Gb/s, and most reach the target of 850 MB/s in these benchmarks. One of the USB 3.2 internal headers only listed as 5 Gb/s in the manual turns out to be a fully fledged 10 Gb/s connector. Whether this is a manufacturing error, BIOS related or just a typo in the specifications is unknown.

AIDA64 (NVMe M.2)

Using a Gen4 x4 M.2 drive, testing shows that four M.2 sockets are indeed Gen4 x4 with the correct amount of bandwidth allocated to each socket. However, the lower three M.2 sockets have a lower read throughput, as these are interfaced through the PCH (X570S chipset).
