Value & Conclusion

  • The 6 GB kit Mushkin Redline XP3-12800 will set you back around 200 US Dollars on their website
  • Extremely tight timings out of the box
  • Manages to break 2000 MHz at CL9
  • No need to raise the voltage over JEDEC spec, runs just as fast on 1.5 V
  • Good for those mainboards or CPUs that cannot handle a high base clock
  • Every bump in CL gives you a noticeable speed increase
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Expensive
  • Not the best/cheapest choice for those with high CPU and base clocks
  • No overclocking headroom at 6-7-6-18
The Mushkin Redlines are part of the company's Extreme Series. It stands for exceptionally fast settings right out of the box, but it also stands for a high price tag. A 6 GB kit will set you back at least around 200 US Dollars, while a 2000 MHz kit with CL9 from competitors costs only around 160 US Dollars. The one big and exclusive upside is the fact that Mushkin's modules manage an extremely tight 6-7-6-18 at 1600. You have to ask yourself if such a guarantee is worth the price premium, which I am sure it is for some of you.
For those looking for the highest speed to overclock the rest of their system to the max may want to take a look at the Mushkin 2000 MHz 8-9-8 kit for a mere 45 US Dollars more. That said, the Mushkin Redline is a great kit, with plenty of headroom using relaxed timings, good for those who want the best of both worlds - tight CL at good speeds now and high overclockability at higher CL for future overclockability. The question remains if you are willing to spend money on that or buy a new faster kit down the road.
