The Seat Base & Adjustments »

A Closer Look

The ICON's backrest is definitely nothing like anything we have tried out so far, and it will, as such, take some more time for an earnest opinion on it to be formed. However, it is of a brand-new and rather attractive design that has struck a nice balance between a modern- and vintage-based look for either a working or gaming environment.

With no raised edges to confine someone to the backrest, its design will suit anyone regardless of body type. An original combination of perforations and diamond stitching patterns runs across the backrest, and those parts of the sitting area you will get in touch with offer breathability and comfort. The steel frame and amount of foam used are more than enough to support big-boned people.

Most of the back is black. The backrest is 86 cm long (33.85") and 39 cm (15.35") wide; these dimensions are considered to be typical, but since there are no restrictions by the way of raised flaps, the entire backrest area can be used.

The backrest's recline can be adjusted and ranges from 90-135 degrees, and the maximum tilt is 11 degrees. The backrest's recline lever is on the right side of the seat's base. A knob under the seat adjusts the tilt's resistance. We did use it once to make the backrest's tilt a bit smoother. The backrest does not recline all the way back, so one will have to do with however much of a recline is possible here when considering a nap between meetings or after a tough gaming session.

The plastic seat-mount covers seem to be of good quality and go well with the chair's overall design. Yet the screws on these seat-mount covers can be made out from afar, which makes for a poor impression and even devalues the chair's aesthetics a bit. noblechairs could have painted these black instead, in the color of the backrest, or could have included screw covers for these in the bundle.

A discrete black aluminum plate with the noblechairs logo in gold has been put onto the middle of the backrest.

A discrete, large noblechairs logo is embossed onto the headrest, and the nobelchairs name and logo have been engraved into the plastic part of the seat's base.

The armrests are 4D, made out of polyurethane (PU) and padded. They are brushed and do not let your arms slide away. Soft and 10 cm (3.9") wide and 24.5 cm (9.64") deep, these also do not tremble when you rock them. The buttons seem to be of better quality than most, but the armrests themselves are smaller than others. However, we believe you will still be able to position these armrests properly by adjusting them to your liking.

The front button does not protrude like the other two do and appears to be made out of aluminum at first. Someone with long nails, or children, will have a hard time pushing it in because doing so takes quite a bit of strength.

Our sample had suffered a small defect, caused by something in the package pressing up against the backrest's side. Nothing too serious, we still had to mention it.
