SLI ready memory

Enhanced Performance Profiles or EPP, is an open standard PC initiative designed by NVIDIA to provide higher levels of system performance by integrating additional memory specifications and performance capabilities into their SDRAM DIMM modules.

EPP was developed as an extension to the traditional JEDEC Standard Serial Presence Detect (SPD) found on today's DIMMs. The new Enhanced Performance Profiles simplifie the overclocking of memory modules, while at the same time ensuring platform and component compatibility. The benefits for the beginner include a good introduction to tweaking and guaranteed success with their first overclock. For the expert, EPP provides a good basecamp to begin overclocking by moving “ground zero” two-thirds up the mountain for the sophisticated overclocker.

In other words, if you buy SLI-ready EPP memory, you can be sure of your overclocking results to a certain point if used with an SLI based chipset. The only chipset currently supporting EPP memory is the nForce 590 SLI. The BIOS will recognize the EPP memory upon boot and let the user enable "SLI-Ready Memory" in the BIOS. Once that is turned on with all the extended information of the EPP, the PC will show that SLI-Ready memory is found and activated. This gives an automated boost to the system. When using SLI-Ready memory, the user does not need to worry about compatibility with the board, the supported voltages and timings or if the board can deliver those. The quality, compatibility and speed of the memory is ensured when SLI-Ready memory is installed in the nForce 590 SLI board. This and the LinkBoost Technology may prove to be a good starting point for extreme overclocking.

Users who have EPP ready memory but not an EPP ready motherboard will not have any troubles running the modules. EPP uses empty space in the SPD memory chip to store it's information. The regular SPD data remains untouched.
