As the firmware is close to identical to previous models, so I've decided to keep this short. The firmware has already proven to be full featured, solid, and easy to use.


The interface shows slight evolutionary changes. For example, QNAP added a link to the latest news and updates on the main page. You'd know about new firmwares a lot sooner this way.


Once logged on, everything seems the same as I remember it. All options are accessible via the main page, nothing is hidden behind countless buttons.


To share files you can use Samba (Windows file sharing) or FTP. Access can be controlled per user or user group. Permissions apply to both FTP and Samba, you can't individually set this.
Additionally you can share files via HTTP, this is more suitable for media like holiday pictures. A built-in photo gallery is included for this purpose. The web server supports PHP and MySQL, so if you wish you can host quite a complete site.
