USB 3.0
As you can see the USB 3.0 interface enables the hard drive to deliver all of its performance across the connection. While this is great to see, as it blows USB 2.0 out of the water in every aspect, the new standard is really intended for flash based storage, as those are able to utilize the bandwith much better than a simple hard drive. The fact that this enclosure is intended for 3.5 inch drives with an advertised SATA II interface however means, that you are meant to use drives like that and not a 2.5 inch SSD for example. Since the Rosewill RX258 and the Vantec NexStar Superspeed use the same IC, the speeds are identical as well. The performance maxes out at well over 100 MB/s. This is more than 3x the real world maximum of USB 2.0.
USB 2.0
As far as USB 2.0 performance is concerned, the drive manages to impress as well, with well over 35 MB/s read and 30 MB/s write speeds on average. ATTO shows us the same performance, as the drive is not the limiting factor, but the USB 2.0 interface. Nevertheless, if you look at our comparison graph below, you can see, that the Rosewill RX358 manages to take one of the top spots in this category as well.
