A Closer Look

The Rosewill RX82-U enclosure is black with silver accents on the front. On the front there are two lockable trays under a long thin strip that glows blue when powered on. If for some reason a drive may fail, the blue bar across the front of the enclosure will glow purple instead.

The rear of the unit has two jacks for the power and data cables, as well as a power switch and a 40mm fan. Underneath there are four rubber feet that keep the RX82-U stable and help minimize any vibrations that may occur.

To remove a tray from the RX82-U, simply reach a finger behind the silver section on the tray and pull. The flap swings forward and the tray slides out easily, yet it is not loose.

Behind the front bezel of each tray is some open mesh to allow plenty of airflow. The rear of the tray has some slots in the bottom for additional airflow, as well as a notch that we will see more about later.

Looking inside the unit we can see where the two trays slide into place. The circuit board utilizes the JMicron JMB20336 Hi-Speed USB & SATA II Combo to SATA II Bridge controller. This chipset is capable of taking a SATA interface and transferring it to a USB or eSATA connection. Sadly, the eSATA option is not available on this unit.
