We would like to thank Seasonic for supplying the review sample.

The Seasonic Connect is the first desktop PSU innovation I have come across in quite some time. The idea might look simple, but no other manufacturer has thus far introduced it in the way of a desktop PSU. This PSU consists of two parts: a modified version of the Seasonic SSR-750GD2 based on the popular Focus platform and a cable-hub backplane that is magnetically mounted to the PC case for all the usual PSU plugs. A non-modular PSU cable with a pair of connectors connects the PSU and backplane. The PSU's entire power output goes through this cable, including the +12 V, -12 V, and 5VSB rails.

Another innovation are the minor rails that are not generated inside the PSU, but the backplane, which reduces the distance between the DC-DC converters and those parts using these rails and results in lower voltage drops and increased efficiency. With shorter modular cables, cable management is also much easier, and airflow potentially improves as well because there is less cable clutter.

Seasonic revealed this PSU in a previous IT show, and I did wonder whether they would be brave enough to move forward with mass production. Thankfully, they have, and if sales go well, we will probably see more Connect models in the future. For the moment, the SSR-750FA is the first of its generation. Since it uses an enhanced version of the Focus platform, which I have extensively evaluated in the past, I expect high performance. I am curious about the performance differences on the minor rails, especially for transient response—the minor rails are in the Connect module, which puts them much closer to the load.
