So is the FOCUS GX (ATX 3.0) 850 W a good performer? By all means. We do understand though that we're not dealing with an extremely powerful 80 Plus {insert some space metal name} rated PSU that costs an arm and a leg. The Seasonic FOCUS GX ATX 3.0 850 W delivers where it matters. It has very tight voltage regulation, meets its still-high 80 Plus Gold efficiency levels and offers silent operation. It delivers on the vendor's promises, gets the job done without a fuss and at the same time feels premium. Based on our test protocol it is very difficult to point out where it does not meet expectations.
Throughout the review we have not addressed the elephant in the room—recently a new iteration of the FOCUS GX series was released—the
FOCUS GX ATX 3 2024 (and yes, in my humble opinion, distinguishing between different iterations of power supplies should be easier). Since the new version came out, the FOCUS GX in this review has become more affordable, and if you're wondering whether the differences between these generations end with just ATX 3.1 vs ATX 3.0 compatibility and new cables, the answer is no—there are more internal changes. Whether the new generation is just as good or even better than this one—that's a question for the future.
The original price of the FOCUS GX ATX 3.0 850 W was definitely on the higher end of similar PSUs at around $160. But with the new FOCUS revision, now you might find it for cheaper, and it's still an excellent PSU. Of course, the
FOCUS GX ATX 3 2024 must be mentioned as a potentially very viable alternative. And if you're wondering whether 850 W will be on the upper end of your needs, the ~$150 to $170 range also has some very attractive offers in the 1kW space.
