Value and Conclusion

  • The Seasonic Prime TX-1600 ATX 3.0 retails at approximately $500.
  • Great efficiency (even at just 5 % of its rated power output)
  • Able to exceed full power delivery at ambient temperatures higher than 40°C
  • Tight +12 V rail regulation and ripple control
  • Fully modular with exceptional connectivity options
  • Passive cooling at up to 50% of rated load, very quiet even under high loads
  • ATX 3.0 capable with two 600 W 12VHPWR cables
  • 12-year warranty
  • Relatively unimpressive +3.3 V rail performance
  • Peak efficiency slightly below expectations
  • Expensive
There's no denying that the Seasonic Prime TX-1600 ATX 3.0 is a premium-class product. The build quality and performance, except for the +3.3 V rail (which might vary from sample to sample), is truly fantastic and should be able to handle even the most demanding modern hardware you can throw at it. The connectivity options are excellent—all the cables one could possibly need are already included. When you add in fully passive operation up to 800 W and a 12-year warranty, there's very little extra one could ask for. Sure, the PSU is on the larger side, but with a unit rated for 1600 W, there's little chance that the rest of the system is going to sit cramped in a tiny case.

This all comes at a price. Not every enthusiast has $500+ to spend on just the power supply. And while typically such high-end products are attributed to overclocking or gaming rigs, the Prime TX-1600 ATX 3.0 can be recommended not only for a high-end gaming monster, but also for a custom-built workstation (think multi-GPU full tower with a Threadripper Pro or an EPYC).

Other viable alternatives in the same power range are also 80 Plus Titanium specced be quiet! Dark Power PRO 13 1600W ($400) or the still very capable yet significantly cheaper Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1650W ($245).
