Seasonic has, as it seems, decided to turn the page by offering their products at really nice prices. Seasonic says the unit I reviewed today to be available for only $219, which is a great price for a high-performing PSU with such a rich feature set. They advertise it as a Gold-certified unit, but my measurements proved it to be much more efficient than a typical Gold unit—its performance is actually closer to the Platinum standard since it gives the Platinum competition a hard time. It even manages to outperform its Platinum sibling, the fresh P-1200, at low loads. The new X-1250's high performance and its feature set left me totally satisfied, but I think it could do much better in terms of noise as its fan generates a lot once it starts to spin up in semi-passive mode. Seasonic should look into this matter fast to replace its noisy and relatively small fan with a larger variant that will push just as much air while producing far less noise, although it is of excellent quality. Many users will turn this excellent PSU down because of the noise its fan produces, which is a great shame since changing the fan out for another is a simple fix. The casing is large enough to easily accommodate a 140 mm fan. However, such a change will probably increase the price, but I am pretty sure that most of you would readily pay a few more bucks to quieten down such a high-performance PSU. After all, the X-1250's price is low enough to still make it a highly competitive option if you were to pay an additional 10 bucks.
To wrap up, the new X-1250 XM2 scores a very high price/performance ratio not only because of its great performance, but because of its low price for a PSU of this category. I welcome Seasonic's efforts in offering consumers more affordable high quality units with incredible performance, which only leaves the noise-output issue left to be dealt with. If you don't have a problem with system components that aren't that quiet, this PSU is a real bargain at its price.
