A Closer Look - Outside
The dimensions of the DS47 are small, and it comes with an attached VESA mount. At the front are four USB 2.0 ports, two LED indicators, an SD card reader, the power on/off button, and two serial ports. A USB 3.0 port at the front would actually greatly enhance usability.
A label on top provides information on the model number and some technical specifications about power input and connectivity modules.
The rear has a DVI-I and HDMI port, mic-in and headphone jack, and a couple of USB 3.0 ports that are very close to the Gigabit LAN ports, so you would struggle to plug a large USB drive into the right USB 3.0 socket while a network cable is connected to the left LAN port. The DC-in socket can be found on the far right of this side.
The sides have screws holding VESA mount pieces in place.
Under the VESA mount's components are two metallic frames. Removing these will allow you to access the interior. Instead of a large metal cover, Shuttle decided to use two smaller ones, which improves usability by making the upgrade/installation process easier.
