Silverstone has often put out products others deemed to have come out too early in the game, and yet others called these daring when others would not. They supported the SFX form factors more and earlier than most others, and at the same time brought out large tower cases at the >$500 price point, as well as others supporting 180 mm fans and motherboards in a 90° orientation. To support some of these, they had to come out with their own series of fans, including some excellent 180 mm fans. The subject of today's review, the FHP141, is another example of a Silverstone product that is not cut from the same cloth by offering some compatibility in spots that can only accept a single 120 mm fan for a 140 x 140 x 38 mm fan with a round frame.
By virtue of that size advantage in all three dimensions over the other 25 mm thick, square frame 120 mm fans it was tested against, the Silverstone FHP141 shows up as the best-performing fan by far, but this also comes with added noise from all that airflow through the radiator. From a performance/noise basis, the FHP141 comes out on top still, and thus, if you have a single 120 mm radiator and are looking to make the most of it, look at the FHP141 instead of 120 mm fans with a higher RPM. In a pinch, the provided accessories also mean it will work as a case fan, but, more importantly, Silverstone includes add-on fan corner to convert it into a more familiar 140 mm fan with a square frame as well. Build quality is good, with thick PBT plastic and dual ball bearings promising a rated lifetime of 150,000 hours. The quick toggle to make it run at a maximum of 1200 RPM will also be appreciated for when you want a quieter operation, but do not have PWM control set up.
Ball bearings have not had the best of years recently when it comes to consumer fans; however, with a very large batch of ball bearings released that should not have been the case. Even though these fans were likely made before, reviews of this fan from customers suggest mixed feelings. With a single fan here and a longevity test not possible, the one-year warranty (at least in the USA) on the fan does not help alleviate these concerns. At $16 per fan, the overall package is still worth it, but note that some resellers are selling the fan for $22 and more, so be sure to make as informed a decision as always.
