SilverStone Raven RVZ01 Review

A Closer Look - Outside

Taking a look at the chassis, it is actually rather compact, just slightly larger than an Xbox One. I draw this comparison on purpose as the RVZ01 is geared towards those who want a gaming PC in a small form factor. In terms of design, the chassis' plastic wrapping is actually quite elaborate and clearly draws some of its design elements from the RV04.

With a design that becomes a bit slimmer at mid-height, the RVZ01 comes across as a bit more compact, and its symmetrical approach will make it look just as good while standing up. Look at the rear and there is a plug for the power cord, which means the PSU is somewhere inside the chassis itself.

Both side panels look identical and hold air vents which have been incorporated into the chassis' design extremely well. Even though the sides are also made of plastic, Silverstone has done a good job in making everything as sturdy as possible.

A slimline, slot-loading ODD bay can be found on the left side of the front, with the Raven logo below it. Silverstone actually supplies an additional logo you may use with the chassis standing up. On the right side are the two USB 3.0 plugs and the usual audio I/O, while the power and reset buttons with their traditional LEDs are to be found along the very bottom.

The left side of the rear is taken up by the motherboard's backside, while the right side features two horizontal expansion slots. This layout is made possible by an actual PCIe x16 PCB Silverstone embedded into the chassis' interior.

You will also find three 120 mm vents, each with a unique design that meshes well with the chassis' overall look. The aforementioned magnetic dust filters are to be used on these locations. There is also another smaller, simpler vent through which the SFX PSU is given access to fresh air.

As we will have the chassis standing up (flat is boring, right?), the RVZ01 needs to be prepped for such a scenario first. Silverstone supplies four rubber feet, sandwiched into some of the air vents to hold them in place. Doing so works well enough and also culls vibrations. You should also switch the Raven logo out to make the RVZ01 look just perfect. Our vertical logo had a piece of rogue plastic sticking out of its back, so it did not stick flush to the chassis. A gentle cut with our trusty Stanley knife did the job, resulting in a chassis that looks its part while standing up.
