What an interesting set the Status Between 3ANC is. When I first got a review sample in, it cost $249 and was among the more expensive TWS earphones at my disposal. Just a few weeks into my testing, Status decided to lower the cost to $179 and then I got in two other TWS sets which cost $350 and $500, respectively. Somehow this was a bargain for the feature set even with some obvious cons listed above. Some of these issues are a result of Status deciding to give you more choice than pretty much anyone else courtesy two operating modes and three sound modes, making for a total of six different frequency responses/tonalities to choose from. The default sound is a good choice among these and I suppose simply by going with a modified Harman target makes the Between 3ANC better tuned than the vast majority of headphones and earphones out there, wired or wireless. I have my own issues with the Harman target, as mentioned on the previous page, but you can also see how much more balanced and mature the Between 3ANC sounds by comparison to those much more expensive sets.

Tonality is clearly the biggest strength of the Between 3ANC, albeit by doing so much we do end up with some weaker offerings. Thankfully, the first-party app features decent EQ support which helps address these shortcomings. In fact, I would highly recommend playing around with EQ anyway since the drivers chosen are decent and can be more resolving in the mids and treble with some minor work. Bassheads will also find plenty of energy for their tracks although I did note the dynamic driver could have been better in terms of being, well, more dynamic and resolving. I am also not sure why we don't even have proper aptX codec support here, let alone LDAC/LHDC, which can also hurt playback if you are comparing to other IEMs that can work on higher playback bitrate. I do feel the pros outweight the cons though, especially with TWS IEMs having such a low bar when it comes to proper tonality. The Status Between 3ANC also offers good fit and comfort on top courtesy a more modular ear tips + fit-wings system, and the reduced price was just what I wanted to see in order to justify a recommendation.
