Initial Setup

The first thing you have to do, once you connect the DS212j, is to load the bundled software disc in a client PC that is on the same network and install the Synology Assistant program. Using it you will be able to find the NAS on the network and set it up easily and quickly.


The Synology Assistant will ask you first for the path to the DSM operating system. You better download the latest version from the downloads page instead of using the file contained on the disc. This way you will ensure that you installed the latest DSM version.


Next you will be asked to give a new password for the administrator account and configure the network settings. In the end hit the "Finish" button to apply your settings.

Software

In the disc that accompanies the DS212j you will also find Data Replicator 3, through which you can backup or restore your files quickly and easily.


You can also download Synology Cloud Station software from here. Through it you are able to sync files between your Synology NAS and your workstation or client PCs.
