Output Noise

We use a high-quality CEM-8852 Sound DB Meter that is installed 50 cm away from the NAS for these measurements. Ambient noise in our lab was below 30 dBA while these noise measurements were taken.

We extracted the files that control the fan's RPM by matching fan speed up with the temperatures of all installed HDDs. These files can be found here. The "/usr/syno/etc/scemd.xml" file controls fan speed, adjusting it according to HDD temperature, and we also have a "disk_temperature.xml" file in the same folder; it lists the maximum operating temperatures for various HDDs, including several SSDs.

Output Noise Comparison Graphs

The following graph shows the DS214se's output noise and compares it to that of other units we have tested in the past.

The DS214se is very quiet while operating normally, which is incredibly important to a home environment as noise there can be a serious issue.
