A Closer Look - Inside

Before we dive into the interior of the main Core part, there is a magnetic dust filter to be found where the liquid cooling would go. This means any air entering the interior of the Core P5 TG, and thus the fans, is free of most dust and grime. On the inside, it quickly becomes apparent where all your major storage will end up, while the VESA mount is a central structural element.

The three 3.5" trays are identical to those inside one accessories box. This means you can add up to four 2.5" or 3.5" drives to the Core P5 TG V2 using the plastic trays, while two additional such drives may be included with the two metal mounting plates in the accessories box. The aforementioned VESA mount is screwed down into the metal frame and held in place by six screws. This should give it enough structural integrity to avoid any issues when mounting a fully loaded Core P5 TG to the wall of your choice.

The Thermaltake Core P5 TG V2 actually offers three ways to install a motherboard! You may just screw the expansion-slot bracket down to the main panel, which results in a classic layout you would find in any mainstream case. For the Core P5, this is great and functional, but definitely the most boring variant. Next up, you may use the supplied ATX tray, screw the expansion slot bracket to that and then pin the whole contraption to the main panel. This not only allows you to assemble your motherboard, GPU, and CPU cooler easily, but also offers a 90° turned layout with thermal advantages. This is cooler, but for this review, we will go for the vertical GPU mounting option as Thermaltake also provides all the metal parts to set it up and even throws in the PCIe ribbon cable.

For the PSU, simply screw down the first part, which is the mounting bracket. As the Core P5 is so open, there is virtually no limit to the overall length of the power supply you may use.

All the cables within the Core P5 TG V2 are sleeved black and of the standard variety, so you should have no problem connecting everything. Even if your board only sports a 20-pin USB 3.0 header, you will still be able to use your USB 2.0 ones because of an included adapter cable.
