Value & Conclusion

  • At the time of this review the Luxa2 LM200 can be had for around 275 € or 325 USD, while the LM200 Touch will set you back a crazy 600 € or a slightly less horrifying 525 USD.
  • Superior construction.
  • Easy and intuitive media player.
  • Beautiful brushed aluminum.
  • Can hold full size CPU cooler
  • Large GPUs fit easily
  • Full size expansion slots
  • Silent cooling
  • Soundgraph software is continuously improved, including support for Windows 7
  • Very simple interior
  • No possibility to install a 2.5 inch hard drive / SSD
  • Badly placed cursor controls in front
  • Fan speed cannot be adjusted
  • No eSATA or USB 3.0
In comparison with the LM100 Mini, which sells for just a few dollars less, the Luxa LM200 offers you the possibility to install a mATX mainboard along with full size graphic cards and CPU coolers. Besides that it looks and feels very similar to the LM100. The construction quality is excellent, as the same thick aluminum is used, along with an identical VFD provided by Soundgraph. The interior of the case is very simple - too simple for some. Other manufacturers manage to offer more expansion room for additional hard drives, while cutting down on the maximum possible length of the graphic card used. While two hard drives may be sufficient for most, some who want to combine their "always on" HTPC system with the functionality of a NAS may be left wanting. The upside of such a simple interior is the easy installation and - as mentioned before - its great compatibility.
Overall, the LM200 has adequate features for a case of this kind along with a surprisingly affordable price tag when compared to other units in a similar market segment. It features a greater flexibility and a much better price performance ratio in comparison to the LM100 Mini and the LM200 Touch.
