The concept of implementing Ethernet support into an existing USB enclosure is a nice idea. Thermaltake has done a good job with the support for SAMBA and FTP. This allows both Windows and Linux clients to connect to it. Another useful feature is the integrated DHCP server which can be handy in smaller networks. This is all nice and good, but with a transfer rate of 3-4 MB/s all Ethernet suddenly becomes really slow compared to the blazing 30 MB/s of the USB interface.
The installation of the harddisk couldn't be easier, it's really plug and play. The USB interface supports NTFS and FAT disks in Windows, the Ethernet interface works only with FAT formatted partitions.
I would say the LanDisk is a good purchase if you are looking for a big mobile medium for data storage and are not so concerned with the LAN transfer speeds.
