  • The Thermaltake S300 TG sells for $80 excluding taxes.
  • Well priced for a sturdy case

  • Large air coolers will also fit
  • Plenty of space behind motherboard tray for cable routing

  • Solid steel panels make this case feel extremely sturdy
  • Fairly wide air vents around the frame of the case allow for good airflow
  • Clear, clean glass panel to show off your hardware
  • Expansion slots may be rotated for vertical GPU placement
  • Little rubber plugs to keep I/O clean
  • Available in black or white
  • Long IO cables
  • A second fan would have been nice
  • Only one USB 3.0 port
  • No rubber grommets for cable management
  • Could use more hooks for zip ties
  • Only two 3.5" drives may not be enough for some
  • Ample use of steel makes it heavy
The Thermaltake S300 TG is meant to be the slightly smaller and more affordable brother of the S500 TG. In that it succeeds quite well by offering the same look and focus on steel as a primary construction medium. By simplifying the chassis interior slightly and foregoing the top panel along with the second fan, Thermaltake manages to shave around 20% off the price, which has the chassis clock in at a very good $80 in retail.

However, at that price point, it would have been nice to see a second fan and two USB 3.0 ports instead of clinging on to the aging USB 2.0 ports. On top of that, the rubber grommets in the S500 TG are not included with the S300 TG, which is unfortunate.

Besides all that, the interior is essentially identical in layout and function, but Thermaltake has simplified the PSU bay and side cooling mount design slightly without sacrificing the core functions and features. This means you do essentially get a slightly smaller, super robust and sturdy, but still nicely understated variant of the S series to put on your desk—even if it is not quite the same bang for your buck as the S500 TG. That said, you cannot go wrong with the S300 TG if you are looking for a clean and durable no-frills enclosure.
