Packaging and Accessories

Remember how I said the ThieAudio Wraith has received an update recently? The retail version now ships in a large, plain cardboard box with ThieAudio branding branding on it. There are side flaps keeping the contents inside in place during transit, and opening the box reveals the actual product box in a plastic seal to keep it pristine. The new accessories come separately packaged to the side in individual boxes of their own.

The product box for the ThieAudio Wraith is fairly clean and continues the use of cardboard, albeit far more decorated now. On the front is the company logo and product name along with a fancy photo of the headphones from the side, in addition to confirmation of this being a set of open-back planar-magnetic headphones. This continues on the back with a render of the complete headphones visible over an enlarged logo and contact information for the company. ThieAudio is using two-piece packaging with the top lid easily lifted off to reveal the various items of interest snugly placed inside a thick foam sheet with machined cutouts. We also get a booklet-style user guide that goes over the design and specifications of the headphones along with instructions on connecting the cable as well as for best care and maintenance of the headphones. The headphones cable is seen underneath the cardboard cover between the headband and I did appreciate the metal badge underneath with the serial number of the headphones. There is no dedicated storage/carry case provided here so you may want to consider aftermarket solutions such as the Dekoni x SKB Hero case which was previously covered.

The extra accessories are newly developed ear pads that are custom made for the ThieAudio Wraith. These come marked as custom pads A and B, and I will be using this naming scheme going forward even when it comes to the testing of the headphones. Each box contains two ear pads without much protection to the items and I noticed one of the pads was slightly out of shape as a result. I had to leave it out overnight for it to get back to its original shape before I used it.

Custom pads A are made entirely of leather, and if it is faux leather then it is convincing enough. It is completely sealed without any perforations and can run slightly warm in use. The second set is composed of velour and much softer to the touch. It is similarly sealed, oval in shape, and also filled with medium-density foam. Both sets are contoured slightly to where the ear pads are thicker on the back than the front to better fit and seal around the ears.
