The Tripp Lite Smart1000LCD is a solid uninterruptible power supply with a handy graphic display. There are a standard amount of outlets which should provide enough protection for most systems around. The coaxial and RJ-11 protection is certainly a positive, since this form of protection is often overlooked. The software available from the website provides a few extra monitoring tools that may come in handy for anyone from a home user to a systems administrator.
There are a few drawbacks to owning a unit like this. Given the compact nature of the Smart1000LCD, it doesn't have a lot of room for power adapters. However, that can be remedied by using an adapter cable like the one shown earlier for just a few dollars extra. And since the whole job of a UPS is to connect all of the power cords to it, the wiring can get out of hand. Many times a smaller sized UPS like this one will be wall mountable so they can be attached to a privacy board under a desk, which keeps the cords off the floor and off the desk. The Smart1000LCD does not have this feature, which is a shame. Adding this feature, or at least some kind of cable management guides, would help clear up some of the clutter.
I cannot stress enough the importance of proper power protection. If you are only protecting your computer with a surge protector, I suggest you look into purchasing a unit like the Tripp Lite Smart1000LCD. There are other models in smaller and larger capacities to fit all systems and budgets.
