Performance

Before we dive into the performance aspect, let me dive into a nice little feature this drive has. To differentiate the drive from the mass of similar products out there, Verbatim has included Nero BackItUp & Burn Essentials, to allow you to save the contents of your main PC unto the Store'n'Go 320GB and a so called "Go Green" Application, which simply gives you control over the power state of the drive. The latter is a nice gimmick, but I doubt a lot of people will utilize the application. I would either just unplug the drive or let it go into standby by itself when it is not accessed, thus I do not see a lot of purpose in the application itself, but maybe you do.


Even though the included Samsung 320 GB HDD only spins at 5400 RPM it is fast enough to saturate the USB 2.0 bandwidth. Verbatim has taken an affordable drive, but has made sure that it can deliver the best performance - well done. This also shows in the graph below, as the Verbatim Store'n'Go 320 GB is among the fastest of the bunch.




Write performance is very good as well. With 30 MB/s it manages to tickle the most out of the test system as this is not the only drive to max out at exactly that speed. So you can expect to see at least this performance, but most likely enjoy a tad bit faster performance - granted your board is capable of it.
