Performance

As you can see, the Verbatim Netbook USB 16 GB is by no means a fast drive. The read speed is mediocre, while the access times are well over 1.4 ms. Verbatim has clearly decided that a small size is more important than speed. Luckily most netbook users are hampered by the netbooks themselves, and the Netbook USB Drive is only intended to extend the internal storage. This is especially true for the first generation netbooks, which only had a very limited amount of slow SSD based storage space.


ATTO gives us slower read speeds than HD Tach, but this is most likely due to the fact that the first few MB of the device seem to be slower than the rest as HD Tach shows. Write speeds are alright with over 12 MB/s.
