XClio 3060 Plus Review

A Closer Look

The front of the 3060 Plus is black, high-gloss plastic with silver accents. The 5.25" drive bays include one cover for an optical drive that matches the rest of the front.

The bottom of the front has some interesting features. There is an oversized power button that is surrounded by a plastic ring that is illuminated by blue LEDs. Unfortunately, the large button is somewhat loose, which gives it a cheaper feeling. Below that button is the Reset Switch and what appears to be five LEDs. These are actually just one plastic piece, but it is illuminated by a blue LED showing HDD activity. In the lower front 3.5" bay there is a door that folds down to reveal the front USB and Audio ports. There is a spot marked for Firewire, but it is not included with this case.

The top panel has a stamped vent toward the center. On the right side panel there are two more vents near the bottom and the front.

The rear of the case follows the standard ATX format, and the rear fan mounts include the option of installing two 80mm fans or one 120mm fan. The company lists the option of putting a 140mm fan there, but the holes are not found on this case. The only option might be one of the "wheel" type fans that use a 120mm hole pattern. The grills are stamped, but they have extremely small holes that are very restrictive. XClio did include four thumbscrews to secure both side panels, which is a definite plus, as most cases only include two for the left side panel. One interesting feature on the rear panel are three knock-outs on the edge along the PCI slots to add serial, parallel or game ports to the case. This feature goes way back to the PC/XT style of cases, but I don't know if it is needed much today. Once the plates are removed they cannot be replaced, and the user could be left with an open hole. Besides, many times these ports will now come on a PCI plate which is much easier to install, as well as to replace if no longer needed.

The left side panel features an enormous 360mm fan, which is the only fan included with this case. The left side panel is rather thick to accommodate this fan, so it sticks out more than an inch. There is a panel near the front that includes an On/Off switch, a variable-speed control knob and a blue LED to show power is applied to the fan.
