Value and Conclusion

  • Great price / performance
  • Space for plenty of extra fans
  • Two silent 120 mm white LED fans included
  • Fan controller included
  • Dust filters on all active intake areas
  • Adequate construction quality
  • Four water cooling holes
  • Hole in the mainboard tray - easy access to cooler backplates
  • Removable hard drive trays
  • Anti-vibration on PSU bay
  • Anti-vibration on HDD trays
  • Possibility to install 2.5 inch HDDs
  • Screw-less system for expansion cards and external drive bays
  • Great cable routing and hiding options
  • Good packaging
  • Screw-less systems do not work well
  • Side panel openings allow clear view to cable mess of hard drives
  • Cable management "clamps" woefully inadequate
  • Cannot mount dual 120 mm radiator within the case
  • Opening for CPU cooler backplates should be larger to avoid compatibility issues
I have to admit, I was a bit sceptical when I was told that the Xigmatek Midgard will offer more "bang for your buck" at the given price point than any other chassis. Sure the case has a few shortcomings, like the inadequate locking mechanism for the expansion slots and the external drive bays or the fact that the opening in the mainboard tray does not seem to be in the right position. On the other hand you will get an overwhelming feature set in a case costing less than 60 €. The dust filters everywhere, the possibility to mount five additional fans and the fact that Xigmatek included two fans instead of the standard single unit within the case, are great examples. But they do not stop there. Other features like the separate fan controller, removable hard drive trays which also have an anti-vibration system and can even hold 2.5 inch drives are very unusual at this price point. So it is safe to say, that the Xigmatek Midgard packs more features into a case, for the price point given, than any other manufacturer to date.
