Contrary to what one may expect, the Z2 Mini isn't just a uniformly scaled-down Z2. In fact, it is different in so many ways that the relation between the two is a loose one at best. Obviously, the Z2 Mini is smaller, but it also loses much of the raised left side of the Z2, which is typical trait of right-handed ergonomic designs. The Z2 Mini, on the other hand, rather aligns itself with ambidextrous designs, in that the left side sits only marginally higher than the right one. In addition, the Z2 Mini maintains a lower profile in general, with an accordingly less pronounced hump that, while still mostly centered, has been moved slightly towards the rear. Whereas the left side of the Z2 was mostly flat, somewhat reminiscent of the ROCCAT Kain series, the Z2 Mini introduces more of a curve, as the rear flares out greatly on the left side. On the right side, however, the rear flares out less than it did on the Z2. As a result of these changes, the Z2 Mini feels radically different in-hand, and lends itself nowhere near as well to palm grip as the Z2 did, as there simply isn't much bulk to latch onto anymore.
As for grip styles, I'd say the Z2 Mini is mostly suited for claw grip. It is a medium-sized mouse with a barely pronounced hump, which makes it more suitable for medium-sized to smaller hands. For reference, my hands are 19 cm long and 10 cm wide, and I found the Z2 Mini comfortable in claw grip.
Dimensions
This table includes the dimensions of the Zaopin Z2 Mini and several other right-handed ergonomic mice. "Front height" denotes the distance between the base and main buttons. Measurements with two decimals have been taken with a caliper, while those with one decimal have been taken with a ruler.
