Asus PhysX pictured

This is what the Asus high end model PhysX card will look like:

Unfortunately, no pricing is available as of this moment.

Asus also claims that it will be the only company to manufacture the high end Ageia PhysX card with 256MB memory.

you know, I bet that PhysX cards are going to come in budget versions and in high end versions...wouldn't it suck to get a budget version? I mean, just imagine...laws of physics REVERSED :roll: . It sure will be interesting to see where these things go.

great, more fans and more noise to add to a system in exchange of performance that is supported by very few games.

It will change in the future, that's for sure, but what's the point to get it now (or when it's available in 3 months)

For me, I'm an ATI fanboy so I will just wait until ATI release their driver to enable their cards work as a Physics ops. At the moment I have got two high end cards.
This is way more cost effective rather than folk out shit loads of money just for the physics card! Compared to the graphics card, it can't do anyother things but just that. Where as the GPU card, you either have a choice, to run in crossfire for exceptional image quality or one would run as graphic ops and the other as physics ops in tandem

theres a difference:
nvidia and probably ATI physics: purely for looks. particles, water ripples, etc
PhysX: gameplay enhancements, such as collision detection enhancement, ragdoll physics, etc
basically, the GFX card physics is useless, the PhysX physics is useful.

Not really at all. Graphics cards can do collision detection enhancement and ragdoll physics. But hopefully the PhysX card will do it better and take some load off the GFX card(s). BTW how does this make GFX cards "useless"? Are you blind or something? :rolleyes:

i said GFX card physics, thanks. also, if you'd seen nvidia's demo and info of their physics, you'd realize that at least currently, all it is is prettying stuff up, not real physics. not a question of what its capable of, but a question of what it does. plus, the PhysX library is already well-developed and widely used (largely cause its free), so there's already software support for PhysX. ATi's physics offering may be more useful than nvidia's, but we'll see

I agree with this post much more than I did your first. It sounded like you were saying that graphics physics were useless and only for looks. If we didnt have graphics physics, things would be a little wierd. :wtf: I think the PhysX cards are just like GFX card were to the CPU. Back in the day, the CPU used to take care of most of the gaming graphics. There was no real graphics accelerator until the mid 90's. Then graphics cards came along and took most of the graphical load off the cpu so it could do other things. I think the PhysX card is going to take the physics load of the GFX card so it can do other things. Just my take on all this.

If the low end version is <$100 I might get one. I dont really see how they could make the cores different except for clocks, so I will be putting a new cooler on mine and oc'ing the crap out of it.

By all means, we can sit here and arguing til end of days but, if the physics card cost around A$200 then I'll buy it. If it cost more than that...sorry i'm not interested
Plus, i need to see lots of game developers start utilising it. At this stage, I think it's too early yet

I think it's awsome!!!
As you would know, gamers from time to time they upgrade their graphics card and ATI implementation was just perfect. You use the old one to do the physics ops. and the spanking new card to do the graphics rendering. You just gotta love it!!!!
I don't know about you people but, if I were to kolk out AUS$1000 for the new card but then had to folk out another AUS$300 - $500 it's just beyond me. All this costs about the same as me wife's car!!!!!!:cry:

U guys havve really cheap cards in AUS. Here in SA cars are way overpriced.

This needs to be emphazied:
Q: Can the soluttion ATI/NVIDIA/Havock offers accelerete game-play physics?

A: NO, they can only do effects physics, real physics still have to be calcutated on the CPU.

It's like comparing oranges to apples to compare AGEIA soulution to the wannabe-solution offered by ATI/NVIDIA/Havock...
Ones does it ALL: Game-play and effect physics.
One can only do one: Effect physics.
