Acer Delivers Full HD NVIDIA 3D Vision-Ready Display for Consumers in the US
Acer America today debuts a new high-end, high-resolution display that features a 120Hz refresh rate. This display can also perform as a full HD 3D display when combined with NVIDIA 3D Vision active-shutter glasses, making it perfect for showcasing high-definition 3D games, Blu-ray movies and other multimedia.
"As 3D content becomes more widely available in popular games and videos, users desire computing products that can take advantage of these new capabilities," said Irene Chan, senior product marketing manager for peripherals, Acer America. "We are excited to offer Acer's first monitor to support 3D technology, enabling consumers to fully immerse themselves in leading-edge 3D games and movies at an affordable price."Chan continued, "We see a strong market for 3D technology products that offer the quality and value that Acer is known for providing, as we've demonstrated with our Acer notebook with 3D technology and now with this new Acer GD235HZ display."
The new Acer 3D display becomes available at an opportune time. In its recently released 3D Display Technology and Market Forecast Report, DisplaySearch forecasts that the total stereoscopic 3D display market will grow from 0.7 million units and $902 million in revenues in 2008 to 196 million units and $22 billion in revenues in 2018, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38 percent for revenues and 75 percent for units.
Leading-Edge Features Enhance 3D Viewing Experience
Users can clearly view detailed images and crisp graphics due to the Acer GD235HZ display's 80,000:1 (ACM) contrast ratio. The Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM) features advanced technology that allows users to adjust images frame by frame to optimize contrast by enhancing detail and gradation. Additionally, Acer ACM enables the new monitor to use less power and save energy while providing a superior viewing experience.
The new 23.6-inch display boasts a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1920x1080 resolution, providing excellent high-definition picture quality. Users can enjoy the clarity and precision of Blu-ray Disc high definition technology for watching movies in extraordinary detail. The 16:9 aspect ratio allows users to view high-definition digital content without image distortion that arises from incompatible aspect ratios. Additionally, the Acer GD235HZ features a rapid 2ms response times for viewing high quality moving images and a 300 cd/m2 brightness, further improving the visual performance.
Acer's unique software solutions boost usability. The eColor Management on-screen interface allows users to tailor the performance of the display, such as brightness, saturation and contrast. The Empowering Key enables users to switch between viewing scenarios and create their own to compensate for application and environmental constraints. The eDisplay Management function is a powerful color enhancement and display rotation tool.
State-of-the-Art Technology from NVIDIA 3D Vision
The Acer GD235HZ 23.6-inch display provides a revolutionary new 3D viewing experience when combined with the NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, adding depth to the image displayed on the flat surface of the monitor. NVIDIA 3D Vision is a combination of high-tech wireless active-shutter glasses, a wireless USB transmitter, and advanced software that can transform hundreds of PC games into an exceptional 3D experience. The Acer display with NVIDIA 3D Vision can deliver 3D images from any PC content, including 3D photographs, 3D videos, and upcoming Blu-ray 3D movies. The price tag on this plus the nVidia set is kind of expensive to have the 3D attribute.
Idk, not worth it to me since it's only a 23.6" screen.
Now just give it an inch or two more real estate, add DisplayPort and maybe try a non TN panel and I'll byte...
I mean people here bitch about things like AA and texture filtering... When you see what king of a difference 3d makes, you will be sold.
It is a crappy tn panel... but with the 3D the gaming quality it displays is way better than any IPS on the market IMO.
Now is it worth it, if you game lots, yes. 120hz (fps) makes it nice and smooth, even draggin the pointer across the screen looks more fluid than my viewsonic vp930 sitting beside it. It is a TN panel, but after its adjusted the colors are pretty decent, but the viewing angles dont compare to a VA or IPS panel.
Would I buy it again, if I could get it for about 250 tax in, yes, or if I gamed lots. Alas I only get about 2 hours of CSS a week and thats it for gaming on the PC. I do more web browsing, reading, and other things on my PC, if I could go back, I would have returned it, saved up and tried an HP LP2475W IPS panel with 16:10 aspect ratio.
My major gripe is that for the price there is no adjustable stand, although it has the vesa mounts if you want to buy your own. Minor quibbles, not 1920x1200, but that may be a limitation of dvd-d bandwidth for that resolution, and tn viewing angles, and pirce I suppose, although I have seen the 2233rz samy onsale recently for 280 cnd.
So if there are any gamers out there, or people who get eye strain from 60hz, a 120hz monitor may be for you. I know 120hz HDTVs use interpolation, but the 120HZ 2233rz samsung monitor is a true 120hz, no interpolation so it makes a difference.
Well there is my mini-review/rant hope it helped.
I had Acer P223W in Glossy white, average with pretty looks.
its one of the very, very few true 120Hz 1080P monitors on the market. I'm pretty sure you can count your options in this category on one hand.
it is overpriced, but the $$ is justified if you're going to go the 3d route in full HD. Its really just overpriced if you get it as a normal monitor - that would just make no sense to buy.
$399 is not that bad I guess. The viewsonic 2233RZ does only 1680x1050 and it costs almost the same.
So 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 or 2560x1440 it has got to be!
I am really looking forward to buying this monitor :)
I want a new monitor for full HD for my PS3.
Plus it's larger than what I got and 120hz + 3D when I decide to bother with it!
I can't wait :)
I await the time when 3D will become a standard, no a proprietary nV tech.
It will be nice to buy a LED backlit (or just an OLED screen for that matter), 1920x1200 screen to replace the Samsung T260 with such a standard that would work universally not with 1 company's $200 glasses.:wtf:
3D is nothing more than a gimmick if it detracts from image quality. Call me when they start putting IPS or S-PVA panels in them.
