ASUS Intros Eee PC 1015PEM, Powered by Atom N550
ASUS released its first netbook based on the Intel Atom N550 dual-core processor, the Eee PC 1015PEM. Available in red, pink, white, and black, the 1015PEM is a 10" netbook with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. The 1.5 GHz dual-core processor that features HyperThreading is aided by 2 GB of DDR3 memory, and Intel GMA 3150 graphics. Connectivity includes 10/100 Ethernet and WiFi b/g/n. That pretty much rounds up this mid-range netbook, which is expected to be priced at 349 EUR.

Does AMD not have a super low power cpu or what? i haven't seen a netbook myself with and AMD chipset
EDIT: nvm did some googling. So AMD has the athlon II neo, which is a bit faster than the atom. but AMD's cpu's draw 12watts rougly whereas the atom 1.6ghz single-core is 2.5. Still tho i don't get why people and manufacturers don't bite the bullet and put that extra performance in netbooks...
dual core + ht = 4 threads?
The N550 is fine for a netbook, and the N270 was too. My netbook with an N270 handles the internet just fine, and that is all the netbook is supposed to do, it handles office work fine also. The only place it stubbles a little is playing flash video, like youtube, but I chalk that up more to the shitty intel graphics, which the GMA3150 should fix.
Though I still want to see N550 netbooks with ION graphics, just for the extra punch and the ability to play HD content.
On the other side I have a ACCER AOA110 netbook. Atom N230.... Shit Thing! It's even impossible to use Windows XP. So I end up trying to live with Ubuntu on it. But Anyway, the problem here is not with atom or the 2gb ddr2-667, but with the stock 8gb SSD which writes at only 5mb/s. People who changed this to a 32GB real SSD, is pretty much satisfied. BUT intle GMA video doesn't help at all.... 720p over youtube is impossible.
Conclusion:
ATOM N550 + ION = GOOD
ATOM N550 + GMA = Well, you better be ready to low power office use and 480p video playback.
Wait for AMD Fusion = Best thing you can do!
AMD Fusion will be great when it comes out though...
I have an Aspire one as well and I love it. I can do 720p video on it, and do! My only complaint is it is noticeably slower than a full size laptop PC, but not slow by any means.
1024x600 should be BANNED for a netbook in 2010. 1366x768 minimum IMO.
Good to see 2GB option.
And GMA 3150 graphics a big up on last years offerings.
EUR 349 would be a steal for a 1366x768 machine, but with 1024x600, meh. Yesterdays design with only the CPU updated.
Umm...It is 1280x720...Edit: Fuck, nevermind. BTA reported it as 1280x720, but it is only 1024x600. Yeah, I'm with you, ditch 1024x600 already.
